What you Might not know about me!
Hey friends, I wanted to jump on here and just tell you a little bit about how I became a midwife. In 1983 I gave birth to my first daughter. I was not prepared for birth, I was one that gave my power over to my doctor and I didn’t know what I didn’t know. I didn’t know what questions to ask. I didn’t know about nutrition and the importance that it plays on a healthy pregnancy and birth. I relied on my doc to tell me everything I needed to know and well… that didn’t happen. You all know how that goes. So I got to experience a lot of things that I would do differently. It was actually those experiences that set me up to be the midwife that I am today. My second birth came along and we were still paying for our first one and still in college, so funds were tight as you can imagine. We were visiting with a friend and she said, “You should look into a midwife, they’re much less expensive and you will probably have a much better experience.” I interviewed with 2 or 3 or 4 midwives and found one that we just resonated with perfectly and we fell in love with her! I remember my first prenatal feeling just giddy and having this knowing that this was my path. This is what I was called to do, to help empower moms to have the best birth experience they could have! My college background was in nursing so when it came time to get my midwife license, I’d already met most of those requirements. I apprenticed for 2 years to complete the practical requirements that are needed for birth, prenatals, and all the things that go along with being a midwife. Then I was officially licensed in Arizona and New Mexico. There really is so much more to this story that I left out, but if you stay with me, I’ll fill you in.
