How To Use Peppermint Essential Oil in Pregnancy
Over the last several years, the quality and purity of essential oils has improved and far surpassed anything I have ever used in the past. dōTERRA is the brand I choose to help my clients and their babies have an easier pregnancy, labor and postpartum as well as ease my job as their midwife. I have watched my clients’ health and comfort increase dramatically in the last eight years both physically as well as emotionally as they use safe, pure essential oils.
PEPPERMINT
Peppermint is one of the first oils I introduce to my clients because of how successful it is at alleviating the occasional stomach upset that often comes in the first trimester. I put 2-3 drops in a veggie capsule to alleviate occasional stomach upset or even just put a drop in the palm of your hand with a drop of wild orange and frankincense as a pick-me-up in the late afternoon. It can be used aromatically, topically or even internally.
It promotes healthy respiratory function and clear breathing. It’s common in pregnancy to get an occasional stuffy feeling. In this case, it’s the perfect choice to diffuse, I like 3-4 drops of peppermint with 3-4 drops of wild orange and it makes my whole house smell happy and aids in clear breathing.
You can use it in a drop of water for a healthy refreshing mouth rinse or I like to put a drop in my chocolate trim shake for a yummy twist. In early pregnancy there are a lot of hormone fluctuations, peppermint can ease the discomforts of this by putting a drop on your temples or behind your neck. There are so many uses for peppermint, it is truly one of most versatile essential oils we have.
