Part 1 Oxytocin vs Pitocin
Hey Mama, let’s have a conversation about Oxytocin. Oxytocin is your body’s way of giving you love, it even has a nickname as the love hormone. It plays a ginormous part in labor and birth. Oxytocin helps our bodies go into labor and stay in labor until we birth and even into your postpartum time. The strength of our contractions rely on oxytocin hormone. Oxytocin can be flowing perfectly while at home and then stress kicks in when it’s time to go to the hospital and our oxytocin is disrupted. This is when labor slows down and contractions space out. If stress disrupts oxytocin then you can guess that a calming restful atmosphere can increase those oxytocin levels. Similar to a romantic atmosphere brings on the love hormone, the same thing applies here to oxytocin in labor. Having a relaxing playlist of music, a warm bath and relaxing essential oil massage from your partner, kissing, anything that helps you feel relaxed, calm, safe, and loved will help increase your oxytocin levels. Stay tuned for part two because we have more to talk about, pitocin versus oxytocin. What is the difference, there is a difference, we are going to talk about that tomorrow.
