Are Essential Oils Safe in Pregnancy and Breastfeeding?

Hey Mama, let’s talk about essential oils and their safe use in pregnancy. One of my expertise and passion is essential oils in pregnancy. There’s not much you can take when you’re pregnant and have an alignment, but you can safely use essential oils. They’re cheap, effective, and super easy to use. There is so much noise out there about what essential oils are safe to use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. So that is why we are here! I’m here to help answer those questions. Essential oils have the potential to enhance and complement every woman’s right to a fabulous pregnancy and birth experience. During pregnancy there’s generally a heightened sensitivity and we’re very protective about what we put in our bodies so we might use a little less of the oils, but they can still be used effectively. Everything a woman consumes can get into her breast milk to at least some degree. So when you have a fussy baby I recommend cutting dairy from your diet so the baby can better metabolize breast milk. The amounts may very, but it’s presumed that less than 1% of essential oils actually get into the breast milk. Be mindful of using strong oils on your skin where the baby may be touching when enjoying skin to skin bonding. Most of all, honor the magnificent Mama that you are, and trust your inner voice, because you know! Each of the blend in my book, Essential Oils for Pregnancy, Birth, and Babies are made in a 10mL roller bottle using 20-30 drops of oil then filled to the top with fractionated coconut oil. This is approximately a 10% dilution ratio. Each recipe can easily be cut in half if you feel it is too strong. doTERRA has set a standard that reassures us we can use their oils with confidence during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. Every blend you see in my book is safe in pregnancy and while breastfeeding, unless otherwise noted. Keep in mind blends with Peppermint may decrease your milk supply while you’re breastfeeding, but Copaiba will help counter that. Do you have specific questions about essential oils? Ask me here because I would love to answer that for you! I want to help you feel comfortable and confident in using your essential oils during pregnancy, during your birth and with your little ones.

    Hi Stephanie,
I have been following you for a few years (since before my daughter was first pregnant). I have your book & ebook.
Is Rose Essential oil safe during pregnancy? I can’t find anything in your book specifically about Rose oil & early pregnancy. I gave my daughter-in-law some Rose Touch for Christmas. She is 7 weeks pregnant. Can it cause bleeding?
    Cheers Jo

      Hey Jo,

Thanks for reaching out. Yes rose is absolutely SIP/B – (Safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding) Rose touch is perfectly diluted and shouldn’t cause any bleeding.

I love what Rose does for my skin! I use it everyday to reduce fine lines and age spots. Scars? Apply 3 times a day for reduced visibility. Rose Touch may help with baby’s sensitive dry skin.

Apply over your heart to improve depression

Increase Libido with just a few drops on your pulse points

Combine with equal parts of Wild Orange and Lavender for a refreshing diffuser blend.

    Hi Stephanie,
Thank you so much for all of the great information on your website and in your book! Could you please clarify for me if Copaiba and Lavender are appropriate for topical use during the first trimester? Would they be helpful for ligament pain? Thank you in advance!

    Kindly,
    Alex

Yes both of those are SIP/B – (Safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding)
      Great choice for ligament discomfort.
You might try this as well.

      Round Ligament support
In your first trimester your low lying round ligaments are as small as your pinky finger BUT… by the end of your third trimester they have stretched to the length of a pencil and they are as thin as a pencil lead! It’s no wonder just rolling over in bed or bending over to pick something up will cause such discomfort.

      Round Ligament Support
Layer doTRRRA’s Aroma Touch blend for healing circulation.
Siberian Fir and copaiba for discomfort
      Lemongrass for ligament support
Dilute with FCO and apply to area of discomfort.

      Warmly,
      Stephanie °Ü°
